Hi, I'm Steve, totally new here.

I've yet to actually make a proper film, but hoping to get something together soon. I've only shot a few weekend motorbike trips I've done with my mates and the odd day out etc, but I thouroughly enjoy capturing stuff on camera.

Anyway, I'm just saying 'hi' really.

Steve

Cheers!

Any of you experienced people got any nice ideas or suggestions for what someone could do for their first attempt?

Steve

A short, for sure. We all say that (us "experience filmmakers") even though many of us (myself included) did a feature and took years and knew we shouldn't Smile

Here's what you might want to do. Think "what do I have? What awesome locations are available to me? Can I convince so-and-so to let me use that really cool industrial building downtown? Who are my actors and what can they play?" And try to figure out an interesting plot and film that uses what you have. I am of the opinion that if you don't try to do something you can't do, your work will appear many times better. Even if you kind of succeed in doing the thing you can't do, don't put it in your finished work. Practice it, like a magic trick, until its perfect and use it in another movie.

A movie, or a short, or anything for that matter doesn't HAVE to be anything. It can be whatever you want it to be, whatever your feelings are, whatever your vision is. On a site like this, people don't have to pay to see them, and therefore, even if they don''t like it, and you don't offend them, they will at least have the respect that you put your film out there to be seen. I don't really see how failure is a possibility in making a film anymore. Be honest. You don't have to know anything about "filmmaking" per se, just about being human and alive and feeling ****. There are no pre-requesites, and no guidelines or criteria. it's just you and the camera.
