Ive recently been introduced into film making after signing up for a film production class this year. Who would've thought I'd find a new talent in that class!
Now, Ive been a good writer all my life, making short stories like crazy since the 3rd grade. But When i signed up for film production, i just kinda thought it would be the easiest class to get my art credit in for graduation in a few years. Back in February my teacher said we would be making a live action film, something appropriate for school, but fun for the group and fun to watch. I was doing lights for my schools rendition of "12 Angry Jurors" at the time and started to catch up on some of the legal things that i didn't understand at the time, and it hit me. Why not write a script just for fun on the computer, in case i'm chosen to write a script for the group in a few weeks?
2 weeks later I had a 25 page script coming out of my printer (In almost perfect format)for "Burnside and Johnson" ready to present to my group on the brainstorming day. Basically its about 2 police officers in my hometown trying to solve a murder (or so they think). The funny thing is, after 55 minutes of class the group finally asked me if i had any ideas for a movie. I showed them my script, they got the teacher to look at it, and the teacher thought he was getting "Punk'd" and checked for cameras around the room :-). when i told him i wrote it on my free time the class surrounded me and my script to look at it. I'm not much for attention, but that was pretty cool.
So 3 months later and going to begin filming tomorrow, Ive already won some awards for my script. I got student of the month for April, and the Future filmmaker award from my High school. one step toward the best screenplay Oscar? I dont know. :-)what i did with my script is I combined CSI, Law and order, Starsky and Hutch, NCIS,Perry Mason,Peter Gunn and a lot of comedy into one film. so what i tell people, "Its A Crime/Drama/Romance/Comedy/Action film." Ive already got teachers asking for signed copies. ha-ha.
So i thought I'd check this place out and see what information i could find on film making besides writing and whatnot. i already got angles and stuff down too. Cant wait for filming tomorrow. We're using the local library's study room as an interrogation room. should be quite exciting!
Thanks Barko
