Since commiseration makes the wait pass that much faster I thought I'd get this going for the USC Prod 2011 Spring hopefuls.

How is everyone getting on? What ya see what ya know?

I contacted the admissions department on the 24th of September to ask them a question about my application. They told me that they are still in "stage 1 of the processing phase." They also said to contact them in two weeks when they move to the next stage to follow up. That would mean around the 8th of October they will be moving to the next stage of the admissions process. From previous years posts on this website people start getting hits on their visual submissions and calls around the middle of October for phone interviews. So it looks like another two to three weeks of waiting until phone calls go out for interviews.

Sounds good Kino!

Are you applying for the first time? And why Spring?

I got an app in during fall 2010 considerations but didn't put the time and effort in to back-up what I have to offer.

I'm much more confident this round!

Why Spring? Because I’m ready to go to film school now! Lol.

I applied to three different schools last year and only got an interview for one (it wasn’t USC). After looking at my application materials I didn’t think I put my best foot forward so this time around I started over completely from scratch and I think my application is much, much better....(gulp) I hope!

Hey, I also applied for the Spring semester. I chose the Spring because I just wasn't ready to commit in the fall. Needed to make sure this is what I wanted. Which I wholeheartedly believe it is. But yeaaaa now we all play the waiting game! Best of luck to everyone, this is such a nerve wracking period.

Hey guys,

I also started completely from scratch for my spring re-application. My app for this past fall was just way too rushed and unpolished. Put a ton of work in this time so hopefully things will turn out better. Big Grin Best of luck to all of us!

Sojouner,

I’ve worked on a couple small independent films here in the Indy area the last few years. Nothing major though. I also majored in film studies as an undergrad.

What about you, BTMP and ChrisW?

The waiting is the worst part of the admissions process. At least for spring admission it isn’t as long as it is for the fall. It’s strange to think that in a little over three months we could be taking classes at USC!

Yeah, waiting really is the worst, isn't it? As soon I pressed submit on my application I felt a huge wave of unease hit me.

I've been making films for about 3 years now, though mostly just in competitions. The down side for my application is that because the films had to be made in anywhere from 2 days to a week, they're pretty unpolished.

If anyone's interested you can check some of them out

I actually just graduated college. But I have made a few short films and have done a lot of video work for different philanthropies... So I guess I am a sort of hopeful upstart?

Also, I can't figure out how to change my name, so you all can call me Brian.

Yea, I never felt more of a rock lifted off me after hitting submit, but then for some reason I felt like a bigger rock fell on my shoulders.

Chris W - very impressed; considering time crunch, theme limitation and the myriads of other obstacles you must've faced - solid work. I'm most impressed by your resolute inclination to try new ways to capture the image (angles, movement, etc).

Brian - I'd hope you'd consider taking some time to decompress from the institutional life and wander the world a bit. I couldn't imagine jumping from undergrad to grad without some real world slaps in the face.

But, then again, many people don't need to be slapped around as much as me.

Hi all -

Spoke with the folks at USC regarding decision time-line. As a re-applicant I submitted all of my material via mail, so I was wondering....

Since I started to reapply on-line then received a paper notice stating the reapps could 1. apply for free 2. re-submit essays et al.

I opted to rewrite everything and add a new recc. My concern is with an online app started that admissions would get confused.

The long and short - I was asked to check back in two weeks. November is the month that notices for 2011 Spring decisions will begin to fly.

Hope some of the confetti lands on my head.

Hey guys I'm sending positive thoughts your direction(s). I know, waiting is the worst part of this whole thing, the stress, the worry, the second guessing. Been there. Hopefully you'll start to hear in a couple of weeks though.

-Sojouner: I wouldn't worry about the application confusion. I assume you didn't actually submit the online part (since that would have required you to pay the fee) so they wouldn't have even gotten the online app. in the office. I doubt it will be an issue. Smile

Hey Sojouner,

Two weeks?!? That's so close and yet so very far away!

I don't know if any of the rest of you have had any hits on your visual submissions but I've had a few since last week...and I have them password protected so USC is the only place that can see them. Thought I'd pass that on. Decision time is right around the corner!

I have had 2 hits on my visual submission, I do know that they are in the committee selection process now. (I had a problem with my visual submission, so I got an email to get it fixed)

Thank you for the positive support Marisah!

Sojouner - I'm sure the application process worked without a hitch this time. In terms of decompressing from institutional life, this was just something I had to do for me at this point in my life.

So does anyone know exactly how this works. We start hearing the yay or nays come November? I have heard it can even be in December. There is not a lot of information here at all for spring, everything is in-depth with the fall semester program.

Okay... so hopefully within the next two weeks we will find out?

How is everyone feeling. I figure we are all kind of in this together and could probably all lean on each other until the time happens.

I got an email from the department on Monday. They told me it was very unlikely that I would hear anything before the last week of November or the first week of December.

I think it's a little odd, since they normally send out all the decisions before the Fall deadline on December 1st... I was hoping to get a letter a before the end of next week, at the latest...
