Welcome to Studentfilms.com, the online film discussion forum for filmmakers and students who are applying to film school, attending film school, need advice on making films, or just want to share their films with the world.
Deadline was December 6th. Anyone else apply to CalArts? Interested in Directing and Cinematography. Thought CalArts would also let me meet some talented individuals in the animation department. Although I do many styles of films, my genre of preference is sci fi/thriller and would love to make some connections in the animation department.
All the schools I applied to: 1. Columbia University 2. University of Southern California 3. American Film Institute- TWO different disciplines 4. Loyola Marymount University 5. CalArts

I applied to Film/Video. Was going to apply to Film Directing, but decided I wanted more freedom to pick and choose my courses and design my own education.
Supposed to be a really great atmosphere for creativity and experimental art.
I understand what you mean. But I will be receiving a B.A. in Multimedia which included Video. Now I want to just focus on directing.

I am actually in the film and video, but I do take classes in the directing program and visa vesa for peeps in the directing. That's the one of the best thing about calarts. If u are bored one day, u can even take dance classes in the dance school! it's a very small community.
From what i heard from my directing friends, I will say submit something unusual. If you are doing a documentary, you might wanna consider something less straightforward. Unlike more conventional film schools, go crazy on your creativity when apply for Calarts. there's no limit, and that's the great thing about this school.
