When should I apply to film school?

Hello everyone,

I did a brief search and didn't seem to find any results that answered my question so I was hoping some helpful members could be so kind.

Basically, I'm wondering whether if it is best to apply to an MFA program at one of the top schools right out of undergrad or do they generally prefer applicants to take a few years off and then apply or if it matters either way.

Depends on how strong your portfolio is

Okay, pretend for a moment that my portfolio was equally good in either situation. Do you think waiting vs. applying immediately would have any effect on my chances of admittance?
