Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum.

I'm currently finishing my B.S. in electrical engineering - by the time I graduate, I will most likely have a 3.6 GPA.

I plan on applying to graduate schools such as USC, UCLA, Columbia, Chapman, Northwestern, BU etc. (MFA screenwriting).

I understand that most schools welcome students who come from diverse educational backgrounds... I'm just worried that my GPA might be too low.

Thanks for reading.

Your GPA really doesn't matter too much for Film school. Most schools will base their decision more on the quality of your portfolio, supplementary materials (i.e. statement of purpose, and any essays you're asked you to write), and your interview (if they interview) than on you GPA or GRE scores.

It's not that your GPA doesn't matter, it depends a lot on the school. Many of the schools don't ask for GRE scores, but some do. Just do everything to the best of your ability. And also a 3.6 is a decent enough of a GPA anyway.

Your GPA most certainly is not too low. A 3.6 is great, especially in a hard science like Double E (coincidentally my major).

Your statement of purpose, creative samples, and letters of recommendation mean far more than getting an A- in Electromagnetic Field Theory.

These programs want to know if you can tell stories. Concentrate on that, and you've most certainly got a shot.

I agree with everything that has already been said. The only other thing I'd recommend is taking a screenwriting, film studies, or production course as an elective. Prior experience isn't required but it may help you decide if you don't know already what discipline you want to go in.

Great Advice everyone, I couldn't agree more.
But I think we all know a 3.6 GPA is descent, so please stop bragging. I just hate it when people need reassurance all the time. A 3.6 GPA too low?? Like really?? Please man!
