yay for the rejects cafe.

i've already started writing new essays and working on a script for a short i plan to make before next year's round.
i'm also sort of an emotional wreck, but actually that's good for artists...

don't stop get it get it. your scenes sound original/interesting-- i am not sure it's about the work samples necessarily... just keep writing!

Aw, thanks. I'm pretty sure it's less than great, because when I read it over just yesterday, it made me cringe a little.

Yes, agreed, and thanks for input. I'm working on new stuff too - doing a lot of plotting and outlining right now to try to nail down stories that have more emotion in them. Chin up, that sort of thing, I guess!

no acceptance for me this year either... although i got to the interview round at UCLA, i screwed it up. look at the whole situation, UCLA was the only one school that didnt ask for visual sample, and i got the interview, so i thought my visual sample was the thing blocked me out (it was actually BAD).
however, it confused me since all the schools claimed that they dont care about past experience on this field, but if they weighted visual sample a lot (do they? or the writings are more important?), arent they looking for experienced filmmaking? (although i know the story is important)
i am planning on applying next year, but it seems the deadlines are coming so fast. can anyone who got rejected last year but got in this year share what they had done before the next application?

and congradz to those who got in!

I'm 0-3 (USC spring and fall and UCLA). And I have yet to make it to any interview stages. I plan on applying to 6 schools this time around so I'm hoping for better luck.

Which schools do spring admission? I was rejected everywhere I applied but this year I'm just applying everywhere and if I get rejected I'll go to NYFA or UCLA Extension.

I don't think experience matters much but I think video sample does; writing samples matter most and GREs and academics least, apparently...and unfortunately for me!

All this talk of bourbon on the forums today is really brightening a dismal week of rejections.

Heavy crystal glass. Check. Ice cubes. Check. Maker's Mark. Check.

Let the good times roll.

@ M Dawg, did you find out who is doing Spring admissions?

Also, I thought this forum needed a bump. Maybe we can all pick a day to make a "rejected drinking day" and then be super supportive in helping each other during our journey to try applying again this fall!

Gotta hang in there.

Willie

I know you applied and got rejected at UCLA the first time and then got in the second time. As someone who has been on both sides of the fence can you tell me what it means to get an interview but not make it? Does that mean they liked my writing but that I bombed the interview? I thought my interview went great by the way. It lasted over 45 minutes and my interviewer seemed to like me. How do they decide who to interview? I wish when they rejected you they would tell you why you didn't get in so that you knew exactly what to focus on. I don't want to change my personal statement if it was great but my writing was lacking or vice-versa. I can change my approach to the interview but was that the problem or did I do okay with that and it was something else? When I e-mailed them to ask if they could tell me why I didn't get in they said it was pure numbers, but there still has to be a rhyme and reason to why they picked who they picked. I keep trying to analyze it all and its driving me crazy. Any words of wisdom?
