Short film for admission

Hi everyone. I'm planning on applying to a couple of graduate film schools. One of them, which I'm sure is on a lot of people's minds, is Tisch. They want a portfolio and one of the criteria is that there has to be a short film. I'm having trouble obtaining a shooting location I want for a film I want to work. I have a good feeling about it but just in case I don't get this location, I'm thinking of writing another script as a back up. One of them is about a psychological condition, another might be about unrequited love. I'm just brainstorming right now but I need it to be cheap with as few locations as possible. Any tips or suggestion? What type of short films did you guys make that got you into film school?
