| Temple is not a good choice for serious filmmakers, but that statement depends upon what you consider serious. However, I can speak to the financial aspect and tell you it's not good; they lure you in with the promise that "all second-years get funding" but what they don't say is:
1) That's an outright lie. 2) Ass-kissing and groveling are the major factors in deciding who "deserves" funding. 3) Even if it weren't, the wording is important--"funding." Not FULL funding, not even generous funding.
Also, Temple University and other PA-funded schools may lose up to 50% of their funding this year thanks to Gov. Corbett and they're making cuts accordingly. The school has changed their policy so that current grad students cannot be hired as adjuncts, so if they don't have the money to offer you a full Teaching Assistantship (and there's always a few, even in that second year class, who get screwed) they can't offer you ANY job.
Finally, consider this--who in the Temple faculty have you heard of? Who is their successful grad? NYU has Scorcese, UCLA has Francis Ford Coppola, USC has George Lucas, Columbia has Kathryn Bigelow, etc. Temple grad students end up teaching, if they're lucky.
