I like the North Pole. And Polar Bears. I'm not too crazy about pole vaulting, but like pole-cats. I think the term "polled" has two meanings, one of them pornographic. Telephone poles are a necessity, except to drunk drivers and there aren't enough light poles. I think there are more Poles in Poland than in the US, but I could be wrong.

Ok, I can't think of any more!

"Pole-cat" is definitely a "southern term". (I include definition #1 as a courtesy!) Definition #3 is/was used in the South "back in the day".

(1) A chiefly nocturnal European carnivorous mammal (Mustela putorius) of the weasel family that ejects a malodorous fluid to mark its territory and ward off enemies. Also called fitch. Any of various related mammals of Asia, especially Mustela eversmanni of central Asia.

(2) See skunk.

(3) Slang. A person regarded as obnoxious or despicable. A person whose company is avoided.
