My dad used to smoke. My whole family didn't like it (mom, sister, and myself). He would try to hide that he smoked by hiding his cigs. in my room so that whenever my mom cleaned it would look like it was mine. That made me mad. But now he has quit and i'm glad.

Ever seen Supersize me? I think its funny that the guy eats that food EVERYDAY for EVERY meal for a MONTH and the doctors say if he would've continued, he probably would've died. Now whats FUNNY is that fast food is LEGAL !!! And whats FUNNIER is that A LOT OF PEOPLE SMOKE AFTER EVERY MEAL, YET DON'T DIE FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS!!!!!

Get rid of fast food. Its gross, addictive, and unhealthy!

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> And for those of you who get high, can you answer a question that's been puzzling me for years?
Why do you put yourself at risk by numbing your ability for rational thought?
I can't stop you from doing drugs, but man I sure hate it when people do talk about it. It doesn't make sense to me. Why? Why? Oh WHY!?
You may not feel the immediate affects, but it is killing you. Your brain cells are dying every time you do it. What if you decided to get in a car while high, aren't you at a higher risk?
Anyways, I'm done, if anyone can give me a good reason why they get high, I'll . . . give them 20 points. . . <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

ok, im not promoting marjijuana or any other drug, just throwing down facts. For starters, driving while under the influence of ANYTHING isn't a wise decision, though interestingly enough tests have been done and show people who are high drive caughtiously (THOUGH I STILL WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING HIGH, There are numerous accidents caused by irresponsible idiots) Second, marijuana does NOT kill brain cells. It does make you lose your memory, BUT ONLY WHEN YOUR HIGH! So once your sober again everything is back to normal. There's absolutely NO PROVEN long term affects of smoking marijuana (there might be some connection to lung cancer or something, but anytype of smoke in your lungs isn't good, but nothing has been proven) Not the same for everyone, but my thoughts are more rational and amazing while buzzed. It gives you a whole different perspective on everything! Seeing things for the first time. The real only thing scientists kinda have proven is that it makes you lazy. True, kinda. It really depends on what. Liek I said, you look at things from a different angle, maybe stuff you did before doesn't make sense to you and you say, "I'm not doing that anymore"

There was a whole generation of people who had new thoughts and ideas because of mind enhancing drugs! The 60s!

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by JW:
I feel that there is no reasonable or justified reason to smoke. I see nothing wrong with grouping smokers into one category, because I think it's so painfully obvious what it does to you that anybody who keeps smoking is either irresponsible, ignorant, or just plain stupid. They're not bad people because I don't think they are intentionally trying to hurt others, but they are irrational and nonsensical. I find the act of smoking to be thoroughly absurd. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
The justifiable reason for smoking is that it makes the smoker feel good. **** everyone else at that point. Secondhand smoke kills waitresses who've worked in smoking sections all their lives and have smoked much more than a smoker's normal intake. I'm sure with the way smoking is regulated now you'd be hard pressed to find someone who wasn't a waitress or had an existing lung condition who died of secondhand smoke. Then there are those of us who are doing it on a purpose because, A: We hate you, or B: We hate ourselves and it's much easier to slowly give yourself lung cancer than it is to slit your own wrists. Cellphones, TVs, and microwaves are going to give you cancer, let's see you give those up. Effin eh, your logic is ****ed up JW. What about people who drink? There is no reasonable or justifiable reason to for them to do so but, are you going to chastise them too? And I'm not trying to get any of you kiddies to smoke. It's real hard to look cool when you're freezing your *** off outside trying to have a calm moment to yourself and every ****tard wants to give you a look like you're personally responsible for their death. I used to be like you, but now I smoke and understand why people looked at me with hate or stupidity when I was saying the things you are. It's ridiculous, and I hate to say it's like a club, but it pretty much is. You don't know WTF you're talking about until you've had a pack (still not condoning.) Damn this has pissed me off, now I must go take a smoke break, excuse me.

-Elliott

I started smoking when I was 14 and smoked non-stop until I was 23, then stopped cold turkey. Of course, way back then (during the Civil War!), cigs only cost .35 a pack and we would curse people who sold them any higher! I also had a relative that worked a Lorillard (cig manufacturer in town) and could get all I wanted for free for a couple of years. However, now at 47, I've quit cigarettes for 24 years!

And don't think you'll get over it either. I still look at certain brands of cigs, get the urge to buy and can describe the taste! But most of the time, the second hand smoke bothers me too. And I very much dislike my clothes smelling like cigs when I hang around other smokers!

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I've been known to smoke a cigar on certain special occasions. Or maybe a pipe. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I might smoke 2 cigars a year (only on the golf course), but that would be the most I do now. Of course, with cigars and pipes, you get that good old mouth and gum cancer - and maybe the throat cancer . . . if we're lucky and smoke enough of them!

The main reason I quit: my grandmother (who lived to be 94) had three sisters, a brother and her son die before age 50 . . . of cancer! And she got cancer at 57, but beat it! I didn't like the looks of my gene pool on that side of the family. (You can live perfectly, but you can't beat your genes!) I didn't want to give cancer any more of a chance than it already had!

it's good to see you've been smoke free for so many years, Mark.

People who are offended by smokers;
I don't have anything against people who smoke. What offends you only weakens you.

and when is all this critisizing of people who smoke going to stop? There's no point is giving harsh looks or telling them its not good to smoke. YOUR NOT GOING TO CHANGE THEM! If they want to smoke, they can smoke. Dont let what they do bother you! Another note on Supersize Me, I foudn it interesting they mentioned something along the lines of, "Are we goign to start critisizing and giving harsh looks to people who eat fast food?" Imagine that! I mean, you can eat McDonald's every day for lunch, maintain a good appearence, but that dont' mean jack! you're still unhealthy on the inside!

I agree with MeGrimlock point for point. When I read JW's post I did a double take just for the sheer ignorance and bigotry in it. If you knew what you were talking about maybe people would take you more seriously, JW.
I agree with everything Elliott said, including the curses, but there are one or two things I'd like to add:
1. Several people know the risks they take when they choose to smoke, and they smoke anyway. Is that ignorant? No. It's someone who makes a different life decision than you. Do you really believe that all people who make different choices are "irresponsible, ignorant, or just plain stupid?" - JW
2. What elevates you above smokers? I bet you have no vices in your life. Yet you still condemn an entire group of people over one aspect of their lives ("I see nothing wrong with grouping smokers into one category" - JW)? That's the most arrogant thing I've ever heard, you're not that great.
3. "I feel that there is no reasonable or justified reason to smoke." - JW
Well, let's rattle off a list of reasons:
-To relax
-Provides something to do when you're bored
-Provides something to keep you from feeling awkward
-Makes you look cool
-It's fun
-Synergistic with certain other substances
To list a few. If those aren't good enough for you, don't smoke. They're good enough to get other people to smoke, and as long as they know that yes smoking kills and yes smoking is addictive, it's really their choice, not yours.

And again, Cheers to Elliott.

I'm an avid smoker, but not a chain smoker, but only while shooting a film, writing a script, talking about film, drinking coffee, so basically anything that has to do with film I smoke while I'm doing it...french cinema has ruined me...my family dies young, from cancer and mental issues, so I say, "eh, why not whack a few years off from the already limited few."

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> so I say, "eh, why not whack a few years off from the already limited few." <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Denis Leary says in his NO CURE FOR CANCER bit - (I paraphrase) - "So what if you die young from smoking. It's though adult-wheelchair-diaper-wearing years you're eliminating anyway!"

As for having vices, a vice is all relative. I'm diabetic, but will still have a cookie or doughnut once in awhile (drives my doctor crazy). That's just as bad as smoking - and just as "ignorant"! Food is my vice!

I have to agree with JW. and add a point.

Do you make choices for other people??

If you are smoker yes. The people that surround you are at risk from your decision as well as you. You may say 'they should move away' however it is your decision to smoke, not theirs, and therefore you should have to move away. Therefore people smoking should not be only the smokers choice, but also thoses that are endangered by them.

As to kyle's point against fast food. The choice of people to eat fast food is theirs and has no affect on the health of the people that surround them. therefore it is truely only their choice.

parnell;
yes, but look at families going out to eat fast food. Their parents are in charge of their kids. THEIR CHOICES ARE AFFECTING PEOPLE AROUND THEM! THEIR KIDS! They need to be more responsible!

I don't smoke, I used to, but I would if I was next to any of you on here that have that attitude.

Lots of actors and directors smoke, and you don't tell them no, so get used to the second hand smoke.

Also, maybe i'll make a topic about it, but this desire to live longer is just a genetic drive that is becoming dangerous with all the medicine and technology we have nowadays. We either need to be smart and see that our instinct to live isn't necessarily the best when we have so many conveniences, or we suffere the consequences.

good point kyle. However because of the irresponsible parenting of few, should many suffer???

I am anti-smoking on filmsets because of the fire risk. do you know how quick a soundstage burns. just recently one on the gold coast was destroyed in 10mins flat during the shooting of house of wax... ironic hey?

Second, marijuana does NOT kill brain cells. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

You're right Kyle, marijuana does not kill brain cells, it mutates them permanently, which is worse because science has proven that we regrow brain cells that have been killed, but mutated ones? No, they don't ever get replaced.

it all depends on who you are. some people just accept the fact that they got nothing else to learn and spend all their time smoking and doing nothing else.

So you can either let marijuana'a lazy affect take over you, or you can accept the fact its the drug making you lazy and do something about. In other words, overcome it and use it for its great creative advantage! ART!

Like I said before, I can't MAKE you stop, but Me personally would never even venture to try it.
Obviously you know the consequences, and I'm sorry you've accepted them. There are so many other ways to be creative.

Speaking of ways to get in the creative mode, how many of you woke up before the sun rises, get as high (Physically, you know as in height
icon_wink.gif
) as you can and watch the sun come up?
I write the most peaceful stuff at those moments. But when I need to write dark and depressing, I'll go sit in my garage and have only one small light radiate my surroundings.
When I need to write action, I turn on boxing, go watch a karate class, or go punch the punching bag myself.

I suppose out of all of us, Kyle could write the best story about a druggy, but I never want to do that.

I probably could write a good druggie movie. Infact, me and my friend Steve are working on a script! Expect a film in January!

but um, druggie movies aren't really me (as in, I'm not gonna make endless pot head movies) I'm more into the surreal and weird, cause thats how this world is.

I dont get high to feel happy and make myself feel better, I don't need grass for that. I'm pretty much feeling good all the time (unless I think of society and people, those are really the only 2 things that get me depressed) I get high to enter a new world, to cancel out all of my other BS thoughts and focus on what I want to focus on. I probably have ADD, so its impossible for me to concentrate on one thing. My mind wanders everywhere. Weed makes my mind calm down and basically says, "Ok Kyle, what ideas would you like to contemplate now?" and I get the most beautifull thoughts from this.

I'm more into science fiction and fantasy type stories. Anything not of this world, or of this world but unknown.

so dont think of me as a druggie. Heroin and cocaine are drugs, marijuana is an herb from the the Earth.

I dont misuse the sacred herb, I'm not a party man (most peopel use it as a party drug) I use it for art and thinking.

and about your ways of inspiration. Totally rad dude, I do the same things too (sober and high
icon_wink.gif
) Nature is one of the few things that give me inspiration. Just cause its so freaking weird, yet beautiful.

I also think I have ADD, but you have to learn to use it to your advantage.

ADD is the next stage in the evolution of mankind. In a book called "The New Brain" (Its all true) the scientist talks about how ADD is the mind adapting to todays way of life. Think about it. When you watch TV, how many things are you forced to focus on at once? A lot. Our mind is adapting to multi task and meet the demands of today's society.

It used to be that I could never focus on anything, my thoughts would be extremely scattered. But I forced myself to sit in my room for hours and concentrate on one thing. It took a long time, but now I can use the advantages of ADD (multi tasking/ attention dividing) and eleminated its disadvantages (not being able to concentrate).

Don't destroy that wonderful brain you got. I can tell your smart. You just got to learn to control tat pink thing inside your head. Once you can make yourself slip in and out of ADD you'll be unstoppable. you don't NEED the weed man.

Yeah, nature's awesome. I live in the city and it sucks. I used to live next to some woods in california and I would spend ALL my time there when I could. The air always smells and feels cleaner and you don't get the annpying bustle of life in your ears.
