Donnie Darko: Questions/Spoilers

Now I know, i know this movie has been out for two years now and shame on me for not seeing it sooner, but I finnally rented it this past weekend. I absolutly loved it, dont get me wrong, the film was so unique and deffinitally ranks up on my top ten films, but i still have some unanswered questions about it.

These questions come mainly from the last ten or so minutes. I followed the movie carefully (or as best i could) when they talked about worm holes and such and many key parts, the ending still plagues me. *Now note i may be spoiling this for a few people*. In the end where a worm hole is created, sending the part of the plane back in time and into donnies room, etc etc, stuff happens. Basically I am confuessed about how did donnie go through time? How did he know about frank and when the "end of the world" was going to happen. And, in the seccond time around, why didnt frank call him to safety, and why did donnie choose to die?

I loved the movie, and then at the ending i was like, "oh wait..... what happend?". So if someoen can clear up everything im sure id understand everything and like the movie much more.

thanks

I don't wanna get too into it, but I deffinatly think Donnie died so that the girlfriend wouldn't have to die.

That should answer 1 of your questions. Great movie.

i guess that clears up some. If you watch the deleted scenes off teh dvd, that clears up a lot more. I feel really bad for the director of the film, on the directors commentary, he felt really depressed when he talked about all the crucial scenes he had to cut out of the movie.

Donnie died--they establish this through many different methods. Here are two:

American flag--american flag is used constantly in this film to symbolize sacrifice. Like when the teacher is fired for her beliefs, or when a jet engine comes spiralling through the ceiling of donnie's room (where an american flag is).

The names of the theater establishes donnie as a christ figure.

"All it takes is one loss, Freeman. At a practice, at a competition--they're always keeping score."
