any tips or techniques on the initial development of a film after the treatment? what comes first for you? scripting, storyboards, budget, crew, cast, etc??? what, if any, are the most logical preliminary steps? what works well, doesnt work well for you?

I have an idea for a short film and want to realise that in an efficient manner. i know there isnt really any offical formula but your thoughts and experience would be appreciated. thanks.

I would think the script would be next because without that then you dont know

Characters so cant do casting

What props etc are needed so no budget


Some people do storyboard first though which is ok but I like the script it first.

Well once you have a treatment and have an idea of the way you want the script to go I would say write a rough draft of the script first WITH A BALLPARK FIGURE OF YOUR BUDGET IN MIND.... Then figuring out your exact budget would be the next step, so you could fine tune it to what you could spend. So once you know your budget you will know what you can and cant shoot. Especailly with locations, some locations call for permits, police supervision etc...

Getting a nice budget together is the hardest part if you ask me. It definitley plays a huge factor in what you can and can not do. Although with a lot of imagination and creativity you can pull off a lot. for example, making a Jib arm from scratch will cost A LOT less then buying one. Hope this helps
 
If I were to make a TOP 10 List of how to complete your project...They would be....

1) Plan your concept
2) Script your concept...DUH
3) Assemble your crew
4) Get your props and locations
5) Cast your actors
6) Solve your technical details
7) Rehearse your actors
8) Schedule your shoot
9) Shoot your movie
10) Put it together

Yeah, seems very simplistic, and it is, but would you rather have a long, elaborate list, or a shortened, simplistic list?

...Yeah, I'd want the long elaborate list too, but I am way too damn lazy to type it all up, LOL...

But if you need anymore help, just hit me up man...
