Johnny Depp... A sell out? Nah!

I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine the other day. He accused Johnny Depp of being a sell out. He told me that a t the rate he is going, he'll be doing commercials for toyota or something. His point was, Johnny has always done the off beat role, he has always done the small films. And a lot of times has made them pretty successful. But he said that Johnny is becoming more commercialized because he is taking Hollywood roles. e.g. The Pirates of the Carribean, The Secret Window. What are do you all think about this?

he has always been doing hollywood roles, maybe with the exception of his first role. was platoon a non-mainstream movie? edward scissorhands wasn't exactly underground. benny and june didn't just play at art institutes.

depp has always been hollywood. and he (for the most part) has always been one of the best things about hollywood mainstream movies. i am glad he was cast in pirates of the carribean, brilliant acting should be for everyone, not just for some prick in a black sweater watching at the local art house.

I don't know what your friend was talking about. Johnny Depp has been playing roles that are in the box office top ten for a long time. I think your friend needs to go to the movies more.
