Overrated Movies

I thought it was the only one of the three prequels that went back towards old Star Wars at all. For a few brief moments, we were home, but other than that, it was just mildly better than I and II.

In general though, they all got such a bad rap via word of mouth, and upon re-watching them recently without the negative hype, I found them to be quite enjoyable.

It's not really overrated: we all know it's stpuid but it's so pointless it's funny and so stupid it's genius. It's not a work of art...but you will laugh, if you can remember higschool.

*If I were a critic I'd give it 2 stars and 3 smiley faces.

"Comedy needs no excuse."
-- J. Adler Blyton

Parts of Napoleon Dynamite are hilarious, so I like it for that. It is overrated, but it's also over-criticized simply because of its popularity. I can imagine a sh*tload of film snobs out there would be singing its praises if it had remained a low-profile cult piece.

Im def with harris on this one. I know a few people who went from absolutely loving it to loathing it after it switched from limited release to general release.

I personally loved the movie. I think everything in the movie comes together to create a very offbeat comedy. Yes it lacks any real substance, but why does every move have to reach down to the bottom of human existence? Why can't some movies just be there to make you laugh? Its not like its your generic run of the mill stupid comedy that no thought was put into.

Yea jokes get old, so Napoleon gets old. But if ND style of humor fits your taste, I cant imagine anyone not thoroughly enjoying the film on their first couple viewings.

I was so bored with the movie after the first 5-10 minutes that I was ready to go home. But my firends kept telling me it gets funnier... while I kept wondering is there even a story in this movie? After 45 minutes I left. I think my friends were trying to torture me. I don't know... maybe I was too mature for the movie which appeals to a younger audience.

One recently overrated movie I saw was the Pirates of the Caribbean 2, everyone I knew couldn't shut up about how fantastic it was. But I thought that it was getting much more credit than it deserved. I mean I can only take so much of Jack Sparrow and all the CG that they threw in the movie. It pains me that it took in so much money in the box office.

I'm not trying to sass anyone, I was just as excited about that movie as everyone, because I really enjoyed the first one, but I just can't stand all the praise it got. I don't hate hollywood movies, just when the good hollywood movies make little money, and then an overblown sequel like this breaks box office records.

Incredibly overrated:

The Shawshank Redemption
The Usual Suspects
Kill Bill I/II

Overrated:

Lord of the Rings (especially installments II and III)
Saving Private Ryan (based on its ethical project, not technically)
Casino Royale

Beyond ratings:

Terminator 2
Last of the Mohicans

i might get attacked for this, but (don't get me wrong, i love this movie) I don't believe that the Shawshank Redemption deserves its hype. It's ranked as the #2 movie of all time on IMDB right under Godfather. Also, pretty high rating on AFI. C'mon!!!!!!!!! It's a good movie with a nice story line. But definetely overrated by sooooooo many people.

does anybody agree?

Yeah, i was dragged by a fangirl to see the movie and by coincidence on the plane home ( I was in another country) the first one was played. It's totally a franchise...it doesn't matter to those people that the last 1 1/2 tanked, you can't even tell them the story got totally weak. They're wrapped up in it.
It's insanely overrated o rather over praised by fans but non-biased (non-Depp and bloomheads)haven't exactly been calling it the holy grail.
